Nilay Özok Gündoğan, a historian from Mardin, was supported with the Turkey-Armenia Travel Grant to visit Yerevan to meet her historian colleagues for her research about the Armenians originating from the town of Palu.
“My visit to Yerevan was very dynamic and an unmatched experience for my effort to find the past in the present. In the wide boulvards of Yerevan, and its buildings, many of which are renewed, I saw how history lively dewls in this modernity. People from different age groups popping up and speaking Turkish with us, was only one of the historic processes that were part of the daily life of this city, that I was researching on. I had the rare oppotunity for a historian to meet and be in touch with different people, follow their stories and voices, coming from the Ottoman empire to reach Yerevan.”
